Joanna Pacitti (born October 6, 1984 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American pop/rock singer and actress. Also known as Joanna.
Biography
Early life & career beginning
Pacitti was born on October 6, 1984 to Stella and Joseph Pacitti; she is of Italian and Irish descent. At the age of 5, she began singing to the customers in her father's barber shop. Her mother enrolled her in dance classes, and she began competing in local talent and dance competitions. When she was 11 years old, she was chosen to star in the 20th Anniversary revival of the musical Annie after entering a contest sponsored by the department store Macy's.
Pacitti starred in 106 performances with the National Tour, obtaining rave reviews and vast press coverage. Two weeks before the show was to land on Broadway, she became ill with bronchitis. She returned to find she had been replaced by her understudy. When the decision was announced to the public, there was shock and disbelief. Andrea McArdle, who was the original Broadway Annie, made her opinion clear by publicly boycotting the show and remarking that "clearly talent was not a factor in this decision, it was crazy adults acting desperately."
The firing became national news and generated a great deal of publicity. Some believe this was the intention of the producers who made the decision. Yet, Pacitti and her representatives can share in the credit or blame for the widespread publicity as the performer willingly appeared for interviews on ABC World News Tonight, Good Morning America, American Journal and Turning Point, to name a few broadcast programs, and employed a "public relations strategist" to book publicity opportunities with publications and television shows.
In response to the firing, a lawsuit seeking $10 million to $50 million in punitive damages was filed on behalf of Pacitti. The matter ended up being settled out of court, and the terms were not disclosed.
Music Act
At the age of 16, she has been signed to a contract by A&M Records president Ron Fair, the man who discovered household names such as Christina Aguilera and Vanessa Carlton. She appeared in some soundtracks, including the Legally Blonde soundtrack in 2001 and in a five track promotional CD released with Mattel's My Scene - Chelsea Spring Break (Series 2), called "My Scene -Chelsea Mix." In 2002, the Taiwanese girl group S.H.E made a cover of her song "Watch Me Shine."
In 2003, she was the subject of an MTV "True Life" documentary in which they followed the first year of a recording artist.
In May 2006, her first single, "Let It Slide," was released under Geffen Records and went to radio at the end of June. Her debut album, This Crazy Life was released on August 15th.
In 2006, she toured with Sheryl Crow and later joined to Teen People's Rock'n'Shop Tour in July. Currently she is touring with Nick Lachey on his "Save What's Left of Me" tour.
