Tonight in Psychology we were talking about gay marriage and someone said in class that people are not born gay, they choose to be gay. I disagree b/c why would you choose to be, unless you a glutton for punishment, to be discriminated against and not be in the "norm?" I know people experiment but as I whole I don't think anyone would choose to be discriminated. What does everyone think?

Years ago, an openly gay stand-up comic used to do a bit about that issue that I always thought was funny. He would say "How can someone choose to be gay? What would the sales pitch be? We have no rights and everyone hates us! Join us! Come to my personal hell with Madonna!".
As for me, no. I do not think sexual preference (gay or any other) is a choice. I like to think human instinct is a bit more sophisticated than tossing a coin.

Exactly, I'm sure knowing that everyone will hate you and having no rights will bring people in droves I've never understood that argument that people choose. I didn't choose to be heterosexual, I just knew at the age of five when my friend Justin kissed me, I liked boys, I didn't make a decision at that point to like boys or girls, I just knew what I liked
