THE BLACK EYED PEAS ADD SOME RICE: Fergie adds her flavor to BEP.

Black Eyed Peas
(Sep. 17, 2003) *Taboo, Will-I-Am and Apl.De.Ap have been the known face of Black Eyed Peas since the group/band was created some time ago. With the release of their third set, "Elephunk," the band is enjoying more commercial success than ever.
Their first two sets, Beyond The Front, and Get Name were critically acclaimed LPs, but they sold a combined 100,000 copies. Not bad for a group that's label alternative rap, but that's not good for a commercial band. Some speculated that the addition of Stacey "Fergie" Ferguson was an attempt at gaining a broader fan base. If that's so then, well, it worked. But she's not some pop diva trying to be down. The Anglo/Latina homegirl is a straight up b-girl at heart, with shell toe Adidas, break-dancing and pop-locking skills, and a love for the culture that most cats don't have.
"Well, I met the guys a long time ago at hip hop clubs in LA," said Fergie. "I've always been a fan of hip hop. And I was a fan of theirs. I went to see them perform and I was a fan of theirs. I thought they were great. We exchanged numbers and years later I started working on my own stuff and I wanted Will to be on the album."
After recording a song for Fergie's set, the crew asked her to appear on their album as well. They liked it so much that they asked her to be on more songs.
"Then I started hanging out with the guys and we got closer as a family and it happened from their and we had to make a choice."
She says BEP is the best thing that could have happened to her and her experiences with the collective will help her solo efforts immensely.
"I'm already signed to Will-I-Am Records and Interscope, so we're going to be doing my solo album. We're also going to be doing another Black Eyed Peas album soon. And, we're just going to keep making music. It's not going to stop me. 'm so glad it happened this way and I'm learning so much. I hadn't performed with a live band before so I'm really glad I'm having the chance to make my chops better," said Fergie.
The events of this summer, the Christina/Justin tour and a hit single, have placed the BEP higher on the charts than they have ever been. But despite all the joys of the game, Fergie says she still finds it difficult to maintain her femininity around so many guys.
"The challenges for me are having a balance. Being with 11 guys on a tour bus can become a frat party sometimes. Guys will be guys and it's a challenge for me to keep that balance that I had when I wasn't on tour and keep that girlie side of me. (I need to) spend a little time with myself instead of hanging out with the guys and eating (and stuff). But I'm starting to want more balance. Just to take a little more me time. It's important for my mental health and my physical health," Fergie observed.

What I want to know is, is when did Stacy all of a sudden become Latina?!...LOL
